Game Week 14 - FIRST DIVISION
UCTISL First Division Preview: My Domain Salt River Storm Into the Promotion Frame
There's been a serious shake-up at the top of the UCTISL First Division log, and it sets up a cracking round of nine fixtures this weekend across Kopano Astroturf and the Rhodes Recreation Grounds. Here's everything you need to know before a ball is kicked.
Saturday, September 19, 10:30 AM — Forest Hill vs University House (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
Forest Hill, under the guidance of Sandile and Kopano first-team coach Lindo, head into this one on the back of a solid win over Umbala FC. They face a University House side that has been anything but predictable — after a heavy 5-0 defeat, "The Eagles" responded in the most emphatic way possible, smashing nine past bottom club Quality Ballers FC last weekend. Goals could well be on the menu here.
Saturday, September 19, 12:00 PM — Bayer Neverlosen vs Umbala FC (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
Bayer Neverlosen, who overachieved their way back from relegation in 2024, arrive full of confidence after a comfortable win over Quality Ballers FC. Umbala FC will look to bounce back after slipping to defeat against Forest Hill. Both sides sit in the tightly packed mid-table pack, and three points here could be a real springboard.
Saturday, September 19, 5:30 PM — Woolsack vs V-Chester (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
Former league champions Woolsack, who controversially opted to stay in the First Division this season under the leadership of Aux, have found a bit of form at just the right time, edging past Carinus to climb out of the bottom three. They now host V-Chester, the multi-residence alliance of Rochester House and Varietas, who will be keen to put a recent loss to Idiots FC behind them.
Saturday, September 19, 7:00 PM — Salisbury FC vs OBZ Square (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
The "Champagne Kings" of Salisbury FC come into this on the back of a win over Carinus, but they face an almost impossible task against runaway league leaders OBZ Square. Player-manager Lwazi Mhlongo's side remain unbeaten in eleven matches, boast a scarcely believable +38 goal difference, and look destined for the Premier Division. A statement of intent is the very least expected here.
Sunday, September 20, 9:00 AM — 11 And Under vs Upper Campus (Rhodes Recreation Ground B)
A must-not-lose match for Upper Campus, who currently occupy the relegation playoff spot after a goalless draw with Avenue Rangers. Kennedy Makgotla's men travel to face 11 And Under, the newcomers managed by the "Founder and Flappy" duo, who will be smarting after a 3-0 defeat to College House. Points are precious for both sides here.
Sunday, September 20, 9:00 AM — Quality Ballers FC vs College House (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
A genuine relegation six-pointer at the bottom of the table. Quality Ballers FC remain rooted in last place and shipped nine goals to University House last time out — alarm bells are ringing. College House, meanwhile, have suddenly found some form, following up a shock win over Avenue Rangers with another victory over 11 And Under. The Jags will fancy their chances of doing real damage here.
Sunday, September 20, 10:30 AM — Washed Athletic vs Peters Couch (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
Huge implications at the top. Washed Athletic sit third — the promotion playoff spot — after a goalless draw with My Domain Salt River, while Peters Couch, home to star man Leigh Austin and the division's biggest social following, will be desperate to respond after a surprise loss to that same My Domain Salt River side. Whoever wins this keeps their automatic promotion hopes very much alive.
Sunday, September 20, 12:00 PM — My Domain Salt River vs Carinus (Rhodes Recreation Ground A)
The form team of the moment. My Domain Salt River have rocketed into second place on the log — an automatic promotion spot — after a stunning 3-2 win away at Peters Couch. They now host a Carinus side who slipped into the relegation zone after a loss to Woolsack and have scored just nine goals all season. On paper, this looks like the perfect chance for Salt River to press home their advantage.
Sunday, September 20, 12:00 PM — Avenue Rangers vs Idiots FC (UCT FC Kopano Astroturf)
Ndimphiwe Hlati's high-pressing Avenue Rangers side, coming off a draw with Upper Campus, host an Idiots FC team looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat to OBZ Square. Both sides sit just behind the promotion pace and will see this as an opportunity to keep their own top-of-the-table ambitions alive.
With OBZ Square and My Domain Salt River now occupying the two automatic promotion places, Washed Athletic holding onto the third-spot playoff berth, and Carinus and Quality Ballers FC sitting in the automatic relegation zone with Upper Campus in the relegation playoff spot, the stakes have rarely been higher. It promises to be a blockbuster weekend of First Division action!
